Terms of use

Last updated: 26 August 2026

These terms govern your access to and use of BTCPay Lite, including the website at btcpaylite.com, payment links on pay.btcpaylite.com, and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Use at your own risk.

1. The Service

BTCPay Lite is a simplified hosting and control layer on top of BTCPay Server. It helps merchants accept Bitcoin and Lightning payments. We do not operate an exchange, a wallet that holds your coins, or a payment processor that takes custody of customer funds.

Payments go directly from the buyer to the on-chain xpub or Lightning address you configure. Lite never accepts private keys, seed phrases, or spending credentials.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. If you use the Service for a business, you confirm you have authority to bind that business.

  • Keep your login details confidential and notify us of unauthorized use.
  • Provide accurate store, wallet, and contact information and keep it current.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account.
  • One person or business should not create accounts to evade a suspension.

3. Non-custodial payments

You choose the payment destinations. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your xpub, derivation scheme, Lightning address, and any plugin credentials. A mistyped address or compromised wallet can cause permanent loss of funds. We cannot reverse Bitcoin or Lightning payments.

Invoice creation, settlement, and on-chain or Lightning confirmation are handled by BTCPay Server and the Bitcoin / Lightning networks. Network fees, routing, and confirmation times are outside our control.

4. Fees and billing

BTCPay Lite charges no processing fee on payments. The first year of hosting is free. After that, the published monthly hosting fee applies. We may change prices with notice on the site or by email. Hosting fees are for access to the Service, not for holding or transmitting Bitcoin.

Unpaid invoices after the free period may lead to suspension. Bitcoin network fees and Lightning routing fees are paid by the parties to each payment, not by us.

5. Acceptable use

You may not use the Service to:

  • Violate any applicable law, including sanctions, AML, or consumer rules.
  • Sell illegal goods or services, or mislead buyers about what they are paying for.
  • Interfere with, probe, or overload the Service or related infrastructure.
  • Impersonate another person or business, or infringe intellectual property.
  • Attempt to gain custody of another merchant’s funds or data.
  • Resell the Service as if it were your own hosted platform without permission.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe violate these terms or create legal or operational risk.

6. Taxes and compliance

You are responsible for determining, collecting, reporting, and paying any taxes that apply to your sales. You are also responsible for your own KYC, AML, consumer, and licensing obligations in the places you do business. We do not provide tax, legal, or compliance advice.

7. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties, including BTCPay Server, Lightning providers such as Blink, email delivery, and domain or certificate infrastructure. Their terms and availability apply in addition to ours. We are not responsible for outages, policy changes, or losses caused by those third parties.

8. Intellectual property

BTCPay Lite, its name, logos, and the software we author remain ours or our licensors’. BTCPay Server is a separate open-source project and is not owned by us. You keep ownership of your store content and wallet information. You grant us a limited license to host that information solely to operate the Service.

9. Availability and support

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access, any particular uptime, or that payment links will always reach a live checkout. Features may change. Support is offered on a commercially reasonable basis at [email protected].

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that payments will settle, that quotes will match a later exchange rate, or that the Service is free of errors or security issues.

Bitcoin and Lightning are experimental public networks. Use at your own risk.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BTCPay Lite and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or lost digital assets, even if we have been advised of the possibility.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the hosting fees you paid us in the three months before the claim, or fifty euros, whichever is greater. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted.

12. Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify BTCPay Lite and its operators against claims, damages, and costs arising from your use of the Service, your payment destinations, your store content, or your violation of these terms or of law.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or close an account immediately if you breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. After termination, payment links may stop working. On-chain and Lightning funds already sent to your wallet remain in your wallet; we never held them.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. The current version always lives on this page, with the last-updated date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Estonia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in Estonia have exclusive jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your country gives you the right to sue in another forum.

16. General

  • These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
  • If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
  • You may not assign these terms without our consent. We may assign them as part of a reorganization or sale.
  • Headings are for convenience only.
